A bio feedback video performance presented at the Live INTER-FACE conference, Lisbon 2014. This work involves a one to one interaction between a particpant and the video. The living heart rate of the particpant controls the effect of the video. Water is pured into the glass followed by olive oil. In keeping the heart rate above 70+ the oil & water solution mix, below 70- and they separate. Here we see the artists heart rate in real time at the bottom right of the screen.
The concept derives from the art residency in Italy in September 2014 looking to find ways to merge both nature and culture through interactive digital art. The water is a metaphor for the body while the olive oil from the region is a signifier of Umbrias currency and culture. The collaboration between the body and the technology is the catalyst to unite these constructs.
