Dr Lorna Moore

Lorna is an independent artist/researcher working in the UK and abroard. Her practice engages with interactive video performance and installation using real-time digital technologies within a multidisciplinary context. She has had a prolific number of her works exhibited nationally and internationally including; Russia, Canada, Germany, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Netherlands, Norway etc and throughout the UK. Lorna has been pro-active in many curatorial roles and Coordinated and co-cordinated many international art festivals and events. She has successfully gained funding for many research and development projects in Warsaw, Krakow, Wroclaw, Canada, Venice and Berlin and she has been involved in a number of art residencies (Italy, India, Germany, Norway etc). Her 20 years teaching experience covers an extensive range of experimental media which includes: fine art, time based media, photography and film, video and performance, art & design, and digital media. She has experience of teaching in a wide variety of institutions and she has a teaching qualification in addition to her BA (hons) in Fine Art, MA in Fine Art, MA in Digital Performance and a PhD. Her practice is situated between fine art and digital media.

Lorna completed her fully funded practice led PhD at the University of Wolverhampton in 2014.Her research continues to look for ways to collapse the space between the viewer and the image through real-time digital technologies as a way to capture the participant in the moment of absorption. These methods are extending the corporeality of the self in the 'here and now' as a form of in[bodi]ment. Her PhD directed Lorna towards real-time body swapping explorations as a way to share inter-corporeal experiences through her art practice. However, through creative interactive viewing methods Lorna's recent curiosity in bio sensing technologies led her on a quest to try and undertsand the hidden world of contemplative experience when we interact with digital images and the impact this has on the subject. The desire to visualise experience through the metaphor of the moving image has informed her current practice and raised more existential  questions...'Am I present or absent in the world?'...'If I'm not aware I'm present then am I absent?' ...'How do I know how I feel?' .

As a reader... 'are you in your body or are you numb?'

Dr Moores research supervisors were media artists Paul Sermon and Martin Rieser. She has attended many conferences and is currently waiting for some works to be published.
