Anatomy of Desire 2000

Anatomy of Desire is a sculpure installation. It involved freezing the artists body fluids over period of a year. Each collection of body fluid (urine) was placed in plastic brick shaped containers. Each ice brick was assemled to build a well the same height as the artist. This ice sculpture was placed on top of a carpet of salt.  As the sculpture melted the osmosis process took place. The salt sucked up the fluids creating a permeable membrane between the internal and external body.

This work was intended to be viewed through a glass box in the gallery as the work melted. However due to health & safety regulations at the art gallery the melting process took place in tha artists studio. This was then put onto video and could only be viewed by participants through a monitor in the art gallery. A plastic box was created to give the illusion the work was actaully melting in the gallery space.

This work can be accessed in the BritArt Directory 2001.
